Introduction
Ford’s need for speed is showing with its latest offering to the public, the Ford Mustang GTD. In 2023, this car caused a storm of questions for the Blue Oval as it offered race car performance in the S650 Pony Car platform. Now, Ford brings us the production iteration of this Mustang, and boy is it turning up the heat! With the imposing design cues and performance to back it up, Ford’s 2025 Mustang GTD is ready to take on the world of supercars.
2025 Ford Mustang GTD
Today, the automotive world is filling itself with high horsepower sports cars. From the aftermarket tuning world, to the production street car, high horsepower numbers is commonplace. This Ford is no exception. The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD laughs at the competition with its 5.2 Liter V8 and Supercharger. The combination of forced induction and engine displacement provide this Mustang with 815 horsepower and 664 lb.ft of torque! Not only is the Ford Mustang GTD among the fastest production cars, but is also the fastest Ford Mustang ever made.
To control this raw power, Ford’s Drag Reduction System provides amazing aerodynamics to the body. You’ll immediately notice the huge rear wing, chin spoiler, and side skirts on this Ford. The Drag Reduction System implemented by Ford allows you to change the angle of the rear wing and activate flaps in the front to balance the downforce and airflow speed. Ford’s intricate system, along with its 815 horsepower, allows the Ford Mustang GTD to accelerate over 200 miles per hour. With its combination of speed, enhanced handling, and aerodynamics, the Ford Mustang GTD research and development team hopes to achieve a sub-7 minute Nurburgring lap time.
Ford’s Drivetrain For The Mustang GTD
When building a performance car, horsepower is not everything. Every aspect of a car needs to be perfectly tuned for the optimal performance. Ford’s R&D team put their focus into the balance of the car to compliment the raw power.
The Ford Mustang GTD sends the power to the wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. Coupled with this transmission is a carbon fiber driveshaft to cut down on weight. Due to Ford’s positioning of vehicle components and the weight reduction, this Mustang has near 50-50 weight distribution.
Most importantly, to fully control this car you need an amazing braking system. Ford includes Brembo’s 6 piston calipers and carbon ceramic brakes to make this sports car stop on a dime. In addition, Ford has purposely added cooling vents in the front fenders to funnel heat away from the brakes. This also added a drag reducing affect on the car to continue to improve its aerodynamic body.
Lastly, Ford keeps traction in mind by creating enough room in the car to fit 325mm wide front tires and 345mm wide rear tires. These tires come from the factory in the form of Michelin’s Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Traction, braking, and handling will not be a concern for anyone behind the wheel of the Ford Mustang GTD.
The Price For Performance
Order applications are already going for the Ford Mustang GTD. For common folk like me, the $325,000 price tag for the 2025 Mustang GTD is going to be well out of reach. For those more affluent car lovers, the car will be worth the value. With all things considered, this Ford is a true competitor to vehicles like the Porsche GT3RS, which can easily reach or exceed the $325,000 price. As we get closer to seeing the production cars in the wild, I can only imagine what the actual sale price will be for this car.
Conclusion
The Ford Mustang GTD is an apex predator of a sports car. With its blend of handling, straight line performance, and intimidating appearance, this is set to be a dream car of many for generations to come. While some may think $325,000 for a Mustang is ridiculous, they are forgetting what the car truly is. This sports car is the embodiment of freedom in car design. One can only wish for that sense of innovation in today’s entry-level sports cars. I am absolutely excited for this car and cannot wait to see it in person. Hopefully when I do see it, its on ripping through a track.
