What Is Your Dream Garage?

Car enthusiasts since the dawn of time have asked this timeless question: What cars are in your dream garage? This question is one of my favorite car enthusiast “games” because it really gets you thinking. Some people look it as an opportunity to spam the most amazing sports cars ever created. Others try to think practically about it. There’s truly no wrong approach to it and it is fun to dream about what you’d buy!

Personally, I love talking to other enthusiasts about their dream garage because it tells you a lot about them as a car lover. Do they prefer the newest high tech super car? Or do they like the analog feel of a classic car with no computer assistance. Not only does it tell you a lot about the person, but it is a great way to connect with newcomers in the hobby. As time has gone on, my answers have changed. My priorities are different and my taste in cars has slightly changed. Today, you will get to find out what my ultimate 3 car dream garage is and why I think it’s the best setup for me!

My Approach To Answering This Question

As a 30 year old married car enthusiast, I have to look at this question differently. You see, as a 16 year old with a fresh driver’s license, my dream garage was typical. I’d fill it with a Subaru STi Wagon, Honda/Acura NSX, and a Koenigsegg Agera. My teen-self would have said the STi wagon is practical for a daily, the NSX was a “going out” car, and the Koenigsegg is for wreaking havoc on the road. Nowadays, I’d craft my dream garage much differently.

The cars in my dream garage need to fit 3 categories: Daily driver/Family Hauler, Special Occasion/Weekend car, and my “need for speed” car. These categories allow me to have a utilitarian car to get me from A to B, have a nice car for cruising and going out with the wife, and then a car to get the adrenaline out.

Utility/Daily Driver

To me, a daily driver needs to have solid reliability, space for passengers, and good looks. As cool as it would be to commute in a Ferrari, it’s terribly impractical. However, I would not dream of commuting in a Corolla. I want my daily driver to have utility but it needs to have presence. In fact, it might be best if it came off of our list of fun daily driver cars! Regardless, the important thing is to ensure smiles per gallon during your daily drive!

Special Occasion Car

Every movie hero needs a hero car. There are certain cars in the world that have an aura about them. This is the car you want to be seen in as you pull up to an event. Think James Bond or even Dom Toretto when they arrive in their iconic cars! Fortunately, there are hundreds of cars that fill this niche and I can’t wait to share my choice with you.

The Need For Speed

Lastly, we need a car that feels like it’s going to send you to the hospital. It needs power, it needs a roaring exhaust note, and provide pure unadulterated fun. This car should be the antithesis of your daily driver. This can take many forms as most car brands have a car which fits this criteria. Nonetheless, this should be the car that damn near scares you to push it to its limits.

My Dream Garage Choices

Toyota Land Cruiser

A damn near bulletproof vehicle, the Toyota Land Cruiser is a no-brainer for me. While this may seem weird because its an affordable car, there is a caveat to it. I’d want a Toyota Land Cruiser with less than 100k miles. If you find one used with that low of miles, I will personally have you pick my lottery ticket numbers. The Land Cruiser is built to withstand the test of time. These were built in a time where Toyota decided to over-engineer everything. Toyota’s SUV has a reputation for exceeding 400k miles, making it an easy choice for the reliability alone. Furthermore, these just look badass. With a small lift, bigger tires, and some nice wheels, the Land Cruiser would take me anywhere with ease. It’s no wonder why we have it on our list of the best 4×4 vehicles for off-roading!

aston martin v12 vantage for my dream garage

Aston Martin Vantage

Aston Martin is one of those brands that has an awe to it. The body designs are understated but command attention. The Vantage is an icon and is one of the greatest grand tourers ever to come out of Europe. A 503 horsepower twin-turbo V8 or a 690 horsepower twin-turbo V12 gives you enormous power. While the speed is definitely there, the Aston Martin’s interior makes this the perfect special occasion car. I can hop into the Vantage and drive it for long distances in ultimate comfort. You can’t look at this car and tell me it doesn’t command a second glance or polite stare.

Porsche 911 Turbo

Porsches are the first car people think of when it comes to speed. The turbocharged flat-six mounted to the rear demands the driver to be aware at all times. One wrong move, and I’d be introduced to snap oversteer. The Porsche 911 Turbo is balanced with speed and handling. However, its dynamics require a skilled hand. There’s a reason the OG Porsche 911 Turbo is referred to as a the Widowmaker. Why not have this iconic sports car in my dream garage?
