The Best Car Interior Upgrades In 2026

  • Horsepower and suspension mods aren’t everything. We love when a car looks good too! Car interior upgrades can really set off a build and set it apart from the rest.
  • Car interior upgrades like aftermarket seats, steering wheels, and more are available for any car. Just don’t cheap out on them or you may regret it!

Introduction

Transforming our cars into works of creativity and individuality is the focal point of the enthusiast game. Rarely do we find car enthusiasts taking pride in keeping their car original, unless it is a timeless classic. Fortunately, our hobby has grown immensely and finding upgrades for our cars is easier than ever. One key component of a car I see many owners neglect is the interior.

In this segment, we are going to look into car interior upgrades and why we think they are grossly overlooked. Whether you have a 4×4 overland rig or a slammed Euro, these interior upgrades will take your car to the next level!

Best Car Interior Upgrades

#1 Aftermarket Seats

One of the first car interior upgrades most people notice are aftermarket seats. Companies like Corbeau have provided high quality aftermarket seats for off-road vehicles and sports cars alike for years. Changing out your seats can reduce weight in your car, provide sportier bolstering, or give you a truly custom look to your car.

My personal favorite, and my most likely choice for an upgrade for the Wrangler, is the Corbeau Trailcat. With a diamond stitch option, this seat gives you the secure bolstering you need along with an upscale interior look! If you’re trying to find the right seat for your car, visit Corbeau online and see the direct-fit and custom options available to you at a competitive price!

#2 Car Audio Upgrades

If you remember the early 2000’s, sound systems were the go-to interior upgrade. From giant subwoofers to custom enclosures taking up the entire cargo area of a Chevy Tahoe, there seemed to be no limit to sound system builds. Nowadays, I feel like car audio is sort of forgotten about. Sure, some cars come with insanely good Harmon/Kardon systems, but where’s the fun in stock? #3 Steering Wheels

Whether you want to clean up the look with a simpler wheel, install a quick release steering wheel, or go crazy with the carbon fiber ones with shift lights embedded in the wheel, there are limitless options out there. I tend to lean on the more conservative side but the custom carbon fiber steering wheels that are out there are pretty cool! If you are looking at a quick release steering wheel, I will say one thing. They look dope, but please keep those for track cars only. You don’t want one coming off of the hub somehow when you have to evade a crash.

Take the Powershift Auto Chevelle for example. When the car was taken into the garage, it came with a large boat-like steering wheel. Given the car’s destiny is towards overall performance, a smaller steering wheel was installed from Grant steering wheels. This provided a cleaner look that matched with the interior and gave a better driving feel.

#4 Shift Knobs

Sorry automatic owners, this is really more for the manual transmission people. Yes, you can change the shift knob on your automatic car and on some automatics (like drag racing cars) there is a reason to do it. However, if you have a basic stock automatic and you want to install a new shift knob, don’t say I didn’t warn you about people making fun of you. I’m not saying I would do that, but people are mean at car shows.

Aftermarket shift knobs can be a phenomenal car interior upgrade and performance upgrade for not a lot of money. Weighted shift knobs can make your shifting throw feel nicer and almost effortless. Combine that with a short shifter and you’ll be shocked how little effort you’ll give to put into gear. Shoutout Anarchy Motive for the epic weighted shift knob I got from them in 2018.

#5 Carpet

When I started tinkering with my wife’s Jeep Wrangler, one thing I noticed was the carpet. Now, I know Jeeps are not known for their interior quality. That doesn’t mean you can’t replace it with nicer material!

Aftermarket carpet from companies like BedRug can not just change the color of your interior, but provide fresh material and a cleaner overall appearance to your car’s interior. Once the money is right, the Wrangler not only will get new seats, but new carpet as well in order to give it a proper refresh!

#6 Sound Deadening

The difference between luxury and economy car interiors is astounding. The touch points, the materials, and the construction are extremely noticeable in terms of quality comparison. One hidden advantage luxury cars take over economy cars though is sound deadening. Companies like Boom Mat, DynaMat, or Second Skin specialize in sound deadening interior upgrades.

Pulling back your car’s carpet and installing sound deadening material may add weight to your car, but the reduction in road noise, outside temperature, and enhancement to your car’s sound system is unreal.

#7 A Thorough Cleaning (Stay With Me Now…)

We spend hours and hours inside of our cars. The interior is filthy whether it looks like it or not. We get too comfortable in our mess and it allows for bacteria or dirt to accumulate with ease. Watch any car detailing video and even the cleaner looking cars will have brown water going through the extractor.

Next time you look at your car’s interior, really look at its condition. Take the time to thoroughly clean it and you’d be amazed how restored the interior looks. All-in-all, it just makes your drive more enjoyable and is free of the month old smell of take out and whatever you left underneath the seat.

Why Are Car Interior Upgrades Important?

Car interior upgrades are important as the interior is where we spend most of our time with our cars. While the factory interior may suffice, it can sometimes feel like a canvas left empty. We car enthusiasts will spend hours and hours scouring the internet for go-fast parts, brake mods, and more, but we fail to address the interior.

For example, when I owned my Focus ST, I had the base ST1 model. I got a good deal on the car and it was new off the lot. However, as I drove it more I felt like the interior was missing something. I wanted to change the seats desperately, but college kid budgets weren’t going to cover what I wanted. Alternatively, I addressed small components I felt really changed the car.

I commissioned a weighted shift knob to be made by Anarchy Motive. The knob was super high quality and the shift throws felt fantastic with it! Additionally, I recalled test driving an ST3 package Focus with the carbon fiber interior trim pieces. A simple interior upgrade but when I installed the trim pieces it really started moving the car in the right direction. Lastly, a custom leather shift boot with red stitching really brought it all together. Had I still owned the Focus ST, I surely would have found some ST2 seats to complete it.
