Introduction
I am guilty, much like many of you, of spending hours of time on my phone looking at car sales. I always have Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, and other car sites in my browser history. Currently, I am not looking to pick up another car, especially with owning my 1966 Chevelle. However, I do enjoy seeing what is out there on the market. The problem is weeding through the fake ads, poor condition cars, and frankly, cars without the options you are looking for.
About a year ago, I was scrolling through Instagram and came across a page solely posting car listings of manual transmission cars. Immediately, I noticed a trend amongst the cars posted on the Instagram account. The cars are all highly desirable sports cars that are near stock or properly modified. This page catered exactly to my taste in cars. After looking through almost every car listed on their Instagram photos, I turned my attention to the actual website and I was excited to learn more about this unique car marketplace. Fast-forward to now, I had the pleasure of meeting the owners of this awesome site and get to share their story with you all here at Powershift Auto. In this article, we’re sharing our interview with the creators of Built for Backroads and the exciting service they are providing to car enthusiasts.
Kyle And Paul’s Story
I had the pleasure of talking to Kyle and Paul to get to know them and why they created Built for Backroads. Both of them are true car enthusiasts influenced by the sights and sounds of automotive masterpieces. Kyle shared his story of working at a Mini shop and later getting into Subarus. One of the stories Kyle told me was of their experience coming up to the San Francisco Bay Area to pick up a gorgeous Hawkeye Subaru WRX Wagon. Kyle purchased it from a Subaru enthusiast, drove it back, and has loved every minute with it.
Paul’s upbringing into cars started just like mine. Paul’s dad, like mine, loved American Muscle cars and would race them back in the day. Oddly enough, Paul’s dad also owned a Lotus Esprit which is awesome to have alongside the classic muscle. Paul’s first car was a MK3 Supra. He quickly learned what head gasket failure was thanks to the Toyota 7M motor. Fast forward in time, Paul hopped into the cockpit of several BMWs, including owning an Interlagos Blue E9X M3. Overall, both Kyle and Paul have had the pleasure of experiencing many types of cars. This exposure to different cars ultimately led to the creation of their site.
What Is Built for Backroads?
Built for Backroads is a car classifieds site solely for driver-focused manual transmission cars. Here, car owners can list their manual transmission cars and gain access to an engaged social media following and thousands of website visitors per month. Kyle and Paul vet every car to ensure they are up to their standard. Also, it prevents fake ads or sellers lying about the car’s condition. Ultimately, they wish to grow a community for admirers of dynamic driver cars. Through this, they provide a platform for those to sell their cars as well as purchase their dream car.
How Do I List My Car?
The application process is fairly simple and is clearly laid out for anyone looking to list their car. Simply click “List Your Car” on the homepage and fill out the application. Cars listed on this site have to meet the Built for Backroads criteria, which generally means it has a manual transmission, 150k miles or less, and does not have a salvage title unless there is sufficient documentation for the work done on the car. When filling out the application, highlight the awesome mods or showcase the vehicle’s condition in order to get a quick sale!
A requirement of the application is photos. To make it easier for the seller, their photo guide is perfect to get the right shots. This guide includes proper angles, camera height and more!
After taking the proper photos, attach them to the application and send it off to Kyle and Paul. What is awesome is Kyle and Paul will help you represent your car properly. This means they will touch up photos, share your car on their social media and website, and help write the ad description. Also, they have a thorough FAQ section covering most questions you may have. Do not hesitate to contact them because they truly just want to help people buy and sell these amazing machines and keep them on the road.
Once your application is accepted, your listing will be posted on their site and shared on their Instagram. This brings tens of thousands of viewers right to your listing at no cost to you!
What Kind Of Cars Are Being Sold?
Built for Backroads curates an immaculate array of cars. From clean stock cars all the way to highly modified track monsters, Built for Backroads has it all. Kyle and Paul love the applications they get because the care and attention to detail in these cars shows pride in ownership. It also isn’t uncommon for Kyle and Paul to experience the itch to buy one of these beautiful cars before they’re listed. As I have browsed this site, I have noticed the high quality options out there. Some have even been tempting enough to inquire about.
From JDM legends like the Honda S2000 to luxury sport sedans, Built for Backroads has options for every car enthusiast. Personally, I love the variety as you can find the perfect car for your needs. It is both insane and absolutely refreshing to see a site like this providing an amazing free service.
Overall, the Built for Backroads team is giving car enthusiasts a huge opportunity. There are few sites where you can find cars of this caliber with ease. Also, the marketing for these ads is top notch. Kyle and Paul truly love what they do and I cannot wait to see where this website goes.
Should I Buy And Sell On Built for Backroads?
The answer is absolutely. Look, this is not an ad by any means. I honestly have excitement for this site as I feel like it aligns with what the community needs. Cars are about experiences and fun. What is more fun than three pedals and a killer chassis on a backroad? Not a whole lot.
Built for Backroads exemplifies its slogan “For The Driver In Us”. If you get behind the wheel of any single car on this site, you will have an amazing owner experience. On the seller’s side, this site gets you prime access to online views at no cost at all. You can ensure your car will go to a true enthusiast that will drive the hell out of it if you sell here. Furthermore, you can get right back into a fun car and experience something totally new. If you don’t believe me, head on over to their site or Instagram and see for yourself.
What’s Next For The Community?
Kyle and Paul continue to build their community while offering this top-notch service. Throughout our conversation, they stated their plan is to focus on providing a space for community engagement. In the future, they wish to hold meets where we can celebrate these incredible cars. More importantly, they want to foster a community for the enthusiasts themselves. This is huge in today’s car scene as the inclusiveness is not common. Kyle and Paul’s passion for the car community is admirable and I can only wish the best to them as they continue their journey. Let’s support Built for Backroads in their cause by keeping these epic cars on the road and driving them as long as we can.
